Relay For Life
In memory of Dora
Cornerstone Bank participated in Wilson County’s 2017 American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. Together, the team of employees, board members and customers raised more than $6,000 in honor and memory of family members, friends and co-workers whose lives have been touched by cancer. Funds were raised by soliciting donations as well as through a bake sale, selling mailbox ribbons and the raffle for a garden bench.
During this event, the Cornerstone Team joined hundreds of others walking around the track throughout the evening. In addition to raising money for a great cause, it was also a phenomenal team building event.
The Brittany Willis Memorial Soccer Showcase
Cornerstone Bank has been an annual sponsor of The Brittany Willis Memorial Soccer Showcase (The Brittany), a high school-level soccer showcase and signature Wilson event, since its inception in 2005.
The Brittany was created in memory of Brittany Willis, a promising young woman whose life was suddenly and tragically cut short when she became a victim of horrific and random violence. This annual soccer showcase is held each year in memory of Brittany’s life and to share her story in hope that it might help others. The event promotes sportsmanship and competitive soccer while adding funds to The Brittany Willis Memorial Scholarship which is awarded each year to select Wilson County high school graduates.
Throughout her life, Brittany played and cherished the game of soccer. She was an All-Conference player and enjoyed the honor of being the captain of the Hunt High School Warriors during her senior year. She also competed in volleyball and ran cross country. Brittany was named an All-Academic Athlete every year of her high school career. She was also a member of the National Honor Society, was a Key Club officer, sang in the school chorus, was a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Student Government Association and was named Hunt High School’s Pepsi Scholar Athlete.
Brittany attended First United Methodist Church and was active in the youth program. She generously gave of herself and her time as a volunteer at the Wesley Shelter, a program dedicated to helping victims of domestic violence.
